UM celebrates Family Planning Month
THE Unibersidad de Manila hosted the celebration of the Annual Family Planning Month on August 30 with Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada on the lead to raise awareness and access of Mañilenos to various family planning methods.
In his speech before students as well as mothers and health workers, Estrada urged couples to be open minded on the subject of family planning because of the city’s growing population.
Based on the 2015 Census of Population, Manila is the second most populated highly urbanized city in the National Capital Region with 1.78 million people.
“Population has a great impact in our city and one of my objectives is to give every family a good life by providing them free hospitalization, education and job opportunities,” Estrada said.
“From health to education, and later on to job opportunities, I want all our young people to have what they need to succeed in life,” Estrada, who is seeking his last term in the coming local elections said.
Estrada also told the parents to stop believing in traditional beliefs in family planning but instead look to modern science and medical technology, adding that the importance of family planning must be tackled and addressed with logic and reason, not hysteria.
August has been designated as the National Family Planning Month, a celebration that centers on the attainment of a better quality of life for the mother, the father and the family as a whole.
