Arum stays mum on Pacquiao's legal threat
TOP Rank Promotion head Bob Arum stays silent on the planned legal action against him by the camp of Manny Pacquiao for alleged nonpayment of broadcast rights of the PacquiaoLucas Matthysse world title bout held last July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“Pacquiao’s legal team is now preparing all the documents needed in filing a case against Top Rank and several other individuals who now have failed to settle their financial obligations for the July 15 fight in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,” reads the statement sent to the media on Monday by Pacquiao’s media relation officer Aquiles Zonio.
According to the statement, Top Rank Promotion did not give the 39-year- old Pacquiao the agreed upon 85 percent share of the broadcast proceeds for airing the fight outside and inside the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
“I have not received the US rights payment for my July 15 fight against Lucas Matthysse that was aired on ESPN plus,” Pacquiao said in the statement.
TheManilaTimes contacted Arum but he’s unavailable for comment.
Zonio refused to give the name of the lawyer handling the case.
The case is expected to be filed in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Besides Pacquiao, Arum had legal conflicts with other professional boxers in the past among them Oscar Dela Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
