GCash partners with Lazada for more convenient checkouts

- MARGA BELLOSILLO

LEADING mobile money provider GCash teamed up with top online mall Lazada to provide a more convenient way of checking out shopping carts.

Existing GCash users who shop at Lazada will just need to select GCash as the payment method, link their GCashregistered mobile number, and tap a button to confirm payment. The enrolled GCash account would then be saved as the primary payment method on future purchases, saving log-in times.

Mynt is the operating company behind GCash. Globe Telecom and Ayala Corp. have an ongoing partnership with Mynt that provides innovative and first-in-world financial technology (fintech) solutions to consumers, merchants and organizations. Its vision is to enable financial access for consumers and merchants by disrupting traditional channels through fintech services.

Anthony Thomas, Mynt president and CEO, is excited about the Lazada team-up.

“Being able to shop online using the GCash App [provides] access and convenience to consumers to shop online without a credit card, and [enables] merchants to expand their consumer base and minimize risk on COD transactions,” Thomas said.

“This goes back to our journey for financial inclusion. Now, no matter how small or big a Filipino is, he or she can enjoy Lazada goods and services via GCash,” he added.

Lazada is considered an electronic- commerce pioneer in Southeast Asia. The products and convenience it offers are something the company takes pride in. With Lazada and GCash’s collaboration, customers will have more flexible payment options and enjoy exclusive and exciting promotions.

Lazada is the biggest online shopping destination in the Philippines, offering 70 million products and 10,000 brands, according to Lazada Philippines CEO Ray Alimurung.

What’s more exciting is that GCash and Lazada will be holding multiple promotions. Customers who pay using Gcash, especially during the biggest online shopping days—November 11 and December 12— can get as much as 50-percent discount of up to P300. At the same time, they can enjoy 20-percent discounts of up to P200 on flash sales.

Filipinos using a Globe, Smart, Sun, TM, or Talk & Text SIM can register for a GCash account for free. Customers can download the GCash App for free on the App Store and Google Play.
