PRESIDENT Duterte has approved recommendations to liberalize rice importation in a bid to address the soaring prices of

of 6.7 percent last month.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque yesterday announced President Duterte’s order to “liberalize” rice importation to allow the “un-

staple commodity to the market.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol is disputing Roque’s claim. These releases give me a headache caused by

Meantime, San Miguel Corp. has expressed its willingness to import rice. I am tempted to make a fearless forecast that they will also venture into brewing fermented rice wine, or “sake,” in the future.

No truth to the rumor that Cong. Bertiz is writing a book on how a monthly period can be reduced to occur only once a year. It could have been a blockbuster, if you ask me.

By the way dear Congressman Bertiz, PRRD has signed into law the national ID bill. Time to discard those fancy ones.

When he appeared taking his family to Hong Kong for a much- needed rest, he is accused of “gallivanting” or enjoying the perks of his position. I read in one news item that entertainment anchor and news reporter Gretchen Fullido seeks a total of P48 million in damages from colleagues Ces Drilon, Marie Lozano and Venancio Borromeo, accusing them of libel under Article 353 of the Revised Penal Code. This is sad news from a network that espouses the tagline “

During my time, an “ombudsman” of sorts was created to safeguard corporate discipline as desired by our late CEO Eugenio Lopez Jr. It was then headed by lawyer Lorenzo Tañada Jr. Ethics investigations were conducted with fairness and not bound by selective procedurals, meaning that high rating personalities are all subject to scrutiny and disciplinary action.

I just hope that the internal investigation regarding this issue was conducted in the same manner and that the courts will expedite a quick resolution to the pending case. All eyes will be focused as well on how the management will handle its “body language.” Fame, glory and wages are the major abductive predators for these behaviors as acquired by the “star” status earned by some along the years.

We only hope for the better as this issue will affect the broadcast industry as a whole. Stains or blemishes will eventually unfold while the case is being tried. Competitors will possibly grab the opportunity for bashing for the sake of ratings and revenue. Let us all be sober in dealing with the forthcoming legal procedures and stay upright along the way.
