The victory allowed Ateneo to reclaim the top of the standings with a 6-2 record.

“Well, for me, I’m just doing what I need to do. I’m not really looking after my scoring,” said Ravena, who also wowed the defending champion’s fans late in the game with an explosive two-handed slam.

“I’m just ready for what is needed to be done coming into the game,” he added.

“Coming into this game, we know that we’re both coming off losses. We know that UP would play intense as well because we’re both trying to prove something. You saw that they fought until the end. So, we needed to match their effort.”

“I tried to do my best during practices to earn the trust of the coaches. But we have a philosophy in our team, which is 'next man up.' When Matt went down, we were hurt because he’s one of our better players and one of our leaders,” said Tio.

“The coaches talked to us point guards. They told us that they really need us to step up,” he added.

Ateneo assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga was happy to see the Eagles execute their game plan resulting in a repeat of their 87-79 win against UP.

“It’s important for us to come out strong especially in the second round, especially we’re coming off a loss to FEU. But more than just that, we wanted to come into this game and focus on UP. It was just more than the standings for us. We wanted to make sure to come out and play well because UP is going to play well also. We wanted to focus mainly on our intensity, our effort. I think we did a pretty good job,” said Arespacochaga.
