156 R&D papers vie for awards
A TOTAL of 156 research papers were subjected to initial evaluation to qualify for the 30th National Research Symposium ( NRS) where the best research and scientific papers completed in the past five years or from 2013 to 2018 will be chosen.
Staged annually by the Bureau of Agricultural Research ( BAR) through the Institutional Development Division, the NRS identifies best scientific papers on agriculture and fisheries conducted by Filipino researchers from various agencies such as the Department of Agriculture ( DA), state colleges and universities, and other institutions under the DA’s National Research and Development System for Agriculture and Fisheries ( NaRDSAF).
Present during the initial evaluation activity held at the BAR headquarter in Quezon City early this week were experts from different partner- agencies of the bureau serving as judges and evaluators.
All research paper entries were categorized as follows: Basic Research; Applied Research ( Technology Generation/ Information Generation/ Technology Adaptation/ Technology Verification) for Agriculture and Engineering and Postharvest; Applied Research and Development ( Technology Generation/ Information Generation/ Technology Adaptation/ Technology Verification) for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources; Socio- Economics; and Development for Agriculture.
“Entry papers with a score of 80 percent and above will count as qualifiers, from which only the top three of each category/ subcategory with a score of 85 percent or higher will be presented during the symposium proper on Nov. 7, 2018 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City,” BAR said in a statement.
The awarding ceremony will follow on November 8. The theme for this year’s NRS is “Generating and Integrating Best Practices in Agriculture and Fisheries through Participatory R& D ( research and development).”
“Likewise, the NRS serves as a venue to give due honor and recognition to researchers whose works have resulted in new technologies, information, processes or systems that are of advantage to Philippine agriculture,” BAR said.
