7-Eleven taps Oracle to boost database infrastructure
PHILIPPINE Seven Corporation, local operator of the 7-Eleven stores in the market, has announced a digital partnership with cloud solutions provider Oracle, aimed primarily at enhancing its infrastructure and database management.
Philippine Seven’s operation is now in the cloud with Oracle EBusiness Suite providing better database infrastructure and tooling for Oracle applications.
“Procurement is always a pain point for us when you are dealing with a company this size,” said Jason Jan Ngo, chief technology officer of Philippine Seven Corporation.
Ngo revealed that 7-Eleven is now using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Cloud Service and Oracle Database Cloud Service, which focus on hosting their application server and database, respectively.
He also emphasized that taking the leap to the cloud has allowed the firm to deliver operational efficiencies, better customer experience, and increased market competitiveness without needing to enforce 24/ 7 human support thus, giving the company as well as its employees peace of mind.
“That’s the value of the cloud infrastructure,” he said during the discussion.
7-Eleven’s migration into the cloud has also allowed the convenience store chain to accommodate any volume of transaction.
Meanwhile, Oracle is utilizing new technologies to further improve how data is handled.
In a recent roundtable discussion held at Makati Shangri-La, Cherian Varghese, regional managing director of Oracle ASEAN & SAGE introduced Oracle Autonomous Database, touted as the world’s first to revolutionize how data is handled.
Similar to artificial intelligence, the new technology can work on its own without human interference and is designed as a self-healing, self- driving, and self-repairing technology that aims to eliminate manual database management.
As early adopters, Varghese believes that Oracle has a very strong technology to bring and is leading in the autonomous category.
“We believe that this new category of autonomous is a sweet spot for us and we are leading with that. We are trying to tell them what these products are, how it can function them, and what it can bring to their organization,” Varghese noted.
