“That’s a big win for us,” SmithSchuster said after the Steelers improved to 6-2-1, strengthening their grip on the AFC North division despite the continuing absence of contract holdout Le’Veon Bell.

Roethlisberger posted a Steelers record 88 percent completion percentage, connecting on 22 of 25 passes for 328 yards, and watched most of the fourth quarter from the sidelines.

“We just found ways to capitalize in ways we needed to in order to get a win,” said the veteran quarterback who also connected with Antonio Brown, Vance McDonald, Jesse James and rookie Jaylen Samuels with scoring passes.

Linebacker Vince Williams returned an interception for a touchdown and James Conner ran for a TD before leaving the game in the second half to be evaluated for a concussion.

The Panthers saw a three-game winning streak halted as they fell to 6-3 for the season. They have never won in Pittsburgh in four attempts.

Steelers defender T.J. Watt forced the pick-six by Williams when he pressured Newton into a poor throw from his end zone.

Perfect plays don’t happen often in most sports. In many cases, athletes need to go the extra mile to get a point and eventually win matches. In volleyball, you’re allowed to make three contacts in order to get a point. The play usually goes like this: pass-set-spike. When the pass doesn’t go well, the setter needs to adjust to it, if the setter doesn’t toss the ball to the right spot, the attacker needs to adjust to it too— simply put, you need to “better the ball.”

This sports principle can also be applied off-court. In life, you make the most out of any situation that you’re in, because chances are, you won’t be right where you planned for the most part.

In the past week, there were two volleyball matches that had some issues with referees making bad calls in crucial moments. This made me go back to one beach volleyball match I played just this August, when our championship game, unfortunately, had to end because of the referee’s bad call. It’s one thing to lose from your opponents and errors, but it’s a whole different match— something Serena would sure be familiar with!
