Ex-VP Binay: Abby deserves reelection
FORMER vice president Jejomar Binay on Thursday said his daughter, Makati Mayor Mar-Len Abigail “Abby” Binay, deserves to be reelected as the city’s chief executive.
Binay, who is gunning for a congressional seat under Mayor Abby’s ticket, said Abby is a “very good” mayor and has performed well and has shown genuine compassion for residents.
Abby is running against Romulo “Kid” Peña and her own brother, former mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr.
“She showed very good performance. She deserves to be reelected,” Binay told reporters.
Peña was the acting mayor - man found Junjun and 20 others guilty of serious dishonesty and grave misconduct in connection with the construction of the Makati Science High School building and the Makati City Hall building 2 project in 2015.
The elder Binay said public services and government operations declined when Peña was the acting mayor.
The Binay patriarch said he respected his son Junjun’s decision to run and hoped that politics would not break the family.
The former vice president is seat in the House of Representatives once occupied by the late senator Joker Arroyo and Foreign Affairs secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.
He and Abby will run under the United Nationalists Alliance party.
