Agilas, PLDT hitters dispute S Turf crown

-

MEN’S volley action reaches its highpoint today as Air Force and PLDT face off in a winner- takeall match for the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference diadem at the Blue Eagle gym in QC.

The Agilas foiled the twice- to- beat Home Power Hitters, 25- 23, 22- 25, 26- 24, 28- 26, last Wednesday, forcing the sudden death expected to go down- to- the- wire starting at 3 p. m.

Focus will be on Alnakran Abdilla, who uncorked a 28hit game, including 26 attack points, in leading the Agilas to the crucial victory. The power-hitting, high-scoring ace hopes to draw solid backup from the likes of Edwin Tolentino, Howard Mojica, Ruben Inaudito, Rudolfo Labrador and Jeffrey Malabanan with Jessie Lopez providing the set plays for the Agilas, who edged the Cignal HD Spikers in the stepladder semis to gain a crack at the championship in the third season of the country’s premier men’s volley league organized by Sports Vision.

But the Home Power Hitters are raring to get back at the Agilas with Mark Alfafara and John Vic de Guzman tipped to lead their attack again along with Jayvee Sumagaysay, Joshua Umandal and Joeven dela Vega.

Setter Ronchette Villegas is also up for a playmaking duel with Lopez.

The Home Power Hitters swept the Agilas in the elims but the latter put their act together in their second clash to hold off the former in their title drive after clinching the first finals seat outright following the withdrawal of Sta. Elena-National U, which had to honor a commitment to represent the country in the ongoing ASEAN University Games in Myanmar.
