Sept 13 deadline set for PSHS exam applications
The Philippine Science High School ( PSHS) System is now accepting applications for the National Competitive Examination ( NCE), which will be administered on October 19 for incoming Grade 7 students for School Year ( SY) 2020- 2021.
The NCE scholastic aptitude test is designed to measure scientific ability, quantitative ability, abstract reasoning and verbal aptitude.
PSHS scholars enjoy free tuition fee, free loan of textbooks, monthly stipend, uniform, transportation and living allowances for low income groups and, when applicable, dormitory accommodation.
To be eligible for the PSHS NCE, an applicant must be a grade 6 elementary pupil from a duly recognized school by the Department of Education, with a final grade of 85 percent or better in science and mathematics, evidenced by the student’s report card.
If the student’s grades in science or math are below 85 percent, he must provide evidence that he belongs to the upper 10 percent of the class.
The student must also be a Filipino citizen with no pending or approved application as immigrant to any foreign country, and must be born on or after Aug. 1, 2005.
The applicants must have at least a satisfactory rating (or its equivalent) in their character rating, as indicated in their report card for SY 2018-2019; not have taken the PSHS NCE previously; and, preferably, be in good health and fit to undergo a rigorous academic program.
The deadline for filing of applications is on Sept. 13, 2019.
Applicants are required to submit the following: fully accomplished application form in two copies; two identical recent 1x1 ID pictures; non-refundable test fee (P100 for private schools, free for public schools); certified true copy of report card (SY 2018-2019) by the class adviser/ principal; and, if the final grades in science or math are below 85 percent, certification or proof that the child belongs to the upper 10 percent of the batch.
The application form may be downloaded from www.pshs.edu.ph; and is also available and may be filed at any of the following: PSHS campuses, Department of Science and Technology (DoST) regional offices, or Provincial Science and Technology Offices.
The application form and the accompanying material are not for sale and can be photocopied, while no reservation fee is required.
Application forms with incomplete information will not be processed. The applicant must initial erasures, alterations and insertions.
The examination permit/s will be issued to applicants upon completion of all documents by the campus where the application was processed. For applications filed with DoST agencies, the exam permits will be mailed to the applicant or to the school principal for distribution to its applicant/ s.
In case the exam permits are not received two weeks before the examination day, the applicants should check with the nearest PSHS campus, DoST Regional Office, DoST Provincial Science and Technology Office or the PSHS System Admissions Office.
