CCA Manila offers real-life training, world-class skills

-

A degree in culinary arts could be a “gold ticket” to success, the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA Manila) said.

“The food service industry is booming, hotels and restaurants are opening left and right, [and] cruise ships are filled with tourists. Due to the increase in demand for good food, a career in the culinary industry has become one of the highest-paying jobs in the world,” said Veritas Luna, CCA Manila chancellor.

CCA said recent industry reports revealed that a top executive chef might earn as much as a corporate executive or even higher. Even entry-level jobs in the culinary industry are at par with salaries of those entering the business process outsourcing and engineering industries.

But, according to CCA, with the industry’s rapid growth, competition is also stiffer.

One must be equipped with necessary skills and knowledge to advance in this cutthroat industry, it added.

Being in the right culinary school could help students gain more advantage.

“Culinary schools allow their students to learn the basics, ensuring versatility and mastery. They are introduced to various techniques, styles, cuisines and anything that is relevant to their chosen field of expertise,” said Luna.

At CCA Manila, students undergo intensive hands-on training. After hundreds of hours of training by chef-instructors, they become more skilled and better prepared to handle the pressure in the kitchen.

“Students can also widen their network by meeting other culinary professionals. The business side of the industry is also taught at CCA Manila. It has a partnership with Thames to equip our students with entrepreneurship skills so their restaurants, commissaries, coffee shops or canteens can prosper. They can even learn management, people skills, and even cost-benefit analysis of their food inventory,” Luna said.

The school offers a variety of options for students, allowing them to explore and master their chosen field of expertise. It also invites chefs from abroad and significant figures in the industry to expose students to the practices of the world’s best.
