Record 188 papers submitted for R&D symposium
A RECORD 188 papers were received by the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) to compete in the 31st National Research Symposium (NRS) set for Oct. 16 and 17, 2019.
The BAR conducts the NRS annually to identify and award research papers that present science-based solutions to improve the life of farmers and/ or fishers through improved productivity and earnings. The winning papers are also given grants by BAR.
A new category in this year’s NRS is for organic agriculture.
“A record-high of 188 research papers were scrutinized by agriculture and fisheries experts during the initial screening for the 31st National Research Symposium on 20 September 2019,” BAR said in a statement.
“Spearheaded by the Institutional Development Division of the BAR, the screening was conducted to identify research papers that will move forward for presentation in the symposium proper,” it added.
The NRS is open to all Filipino scientists and researchers from the agencies and units of the Department of Agriculture (DA), state universities and colleges, and government institutions participating under the DA’s National Agriculture and Fisheries Research and Development (R&D) System.
Only research papers conducted in the past five years are eligible for the NRS. Its culmination is the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act Research Paper Award that is awarded to researchers, whose works have resulted to new technologies, information, processes or systems beneficial to the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
