Mojdeh breaks another PH junior record
SWIMMING Pinas ace tanker Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh once again established a new Philippine national junior record in the girls’ 13-year 200m Individual Medley in the prestigious 10th Asian Age Group Swimming Championship being held at the Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru City, India.
The 13- year- old Brent International School-Laguna student registered two minutes and 29.87 second during the preliminary round of the girls’ 14-under 200m IM event.
Mojdeh broke the old Philippine national junior record of 2: 30.31 she also set in the 1st Philippine National Open held at the New Clark City sports complex in Tarlac last month.
“It’s (Asian Age Group) one of the toughest tournaments with the presence of world-class junior swimmers from Japan and China. And we are happy that she was able to break her PH junior record here. That alone is already an achievement,” said Swimming Pinas team manager Joan Melissa Mojdeh.
The younger Mojdeh hopes to continue her impressive showing when she guns for medals in two of her favorite events in the four- day tournament that drew more than 1,000 tankers from 26 countries.
Mojdeh, a product of the Susan Papa Swim Academy, earned
butterfly after submitting two minutes and 21.71 seconds, and in the 50m breaststroke event by virtue of her 36.16-second clocking in the preliminaries. “We would like to thank PSI ( Philippine Swimming Incorporated) for giving these young swimmers a chance to compete against some of the world’s best young tankers. It’s a good exposure for them,” added Mojdeh. Earlier, Jalil Sephraim Taguinod delivered the country’s first medal in the tournament following his
14-under 100m breaststroke.
Taguinod clocked 1:08.77 to secure the third-place honors while Yamato Okadome of Japan ruled the event with 1:04.55 and Huang Chun Chieh of Taiwan earned the silver with 1:08.18.
