Six Mapúa films in Korea-Pinoy film fest

SIX student films from Mapúa University will be featured in the first Korea-Pinoy International Film Festival (KPIFF) on September 28 in Seoul, South Korea.

The KPIFF, a three-day event (September 27 to 29), is part of the celebration of the 100 years of Philippine Cinema, and in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the bilateral relations between Philippines and South Korea.

The student films, dubbed the Bests of Mapúa, include award-winning independent flicks from several local and international independent film festivals — “Ophelia,” which nabbed the Short Film Corner featured film in the 2019 Cannes Film Festival; “Nik-Nik,”

Best LGBT Award winner in the 2019 Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards; “Disconnection Notice,” Netpac Award Winner in the 2019 Cinemalaya Short Film Category; “Gatilyo,” Cinemalaya 2019 Short Film category finalist; and “Southbound” and “Pood,” which were Best Animation Film and finalist, respectively, in the CineMapúa 2018 Digital Student Film Festival.

Mapúa School of Media Studies Dean Benigno Agapito Jr. will represent the university in the film festival and will discuss the university’s digital film program.

The KPIFF, which will be held at the Arirang Cinema Center, Seoul in South Korea, carries the theme “Migration.” It will present Filipino, Korean and international films, as well as host discussions from directors, actors, producers and professionals in the entertainment industry.
