Support Asean Para Games hosting – Duterte
PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has directed all the concerned government agencies to ensure the success of the 10th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Para Games in the Philippines. Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by authority of the President, issued Memorandum Circular (MC) 67, directing all government agencies, and instrumentalities, and encouraging local government units to support the hosting of the said sporting event, in coordination with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC).
“It is the policy of the State to promote a more inclusive society give its full support to the improvement of the well-being of person with disabilities, and undertake all efforts necessary to facilitate their integration into mainstream society,” Medialdea said in the memo.
“The successful organization and hosting of the 10th Asean Para Games requires the involvement, coordination and support of concerned government agencies, the different national sports associations, local government units, and the private sector,” he added. Medialdea said it was the mandate of the PSC “to promote physical education, and encourage and sustain the development of sports in the country to foster physical fitness, self- discipline, teamwork and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry through a unified national sports promotion and development program.”
“The PSC, PPC and all concerned national sports associations shall coordinate and support each other for the successful hosting of the 10th Asean Para Games and all its preparatory and relevant competition, and work together for the full and effective participation of the Philippine delegates in these events,” Medialdea said.
“All departments, bureaus, agencies and instrumentalities fo the government, including governmentowned or- controlled corporations and state universities and colleges, are hereby directed to render full support and assistance, consistent with their respective mandates and subject to relevant laws and regulations, to the PSC, PPC in the activities relative to the Philippines’ hosting of the 10th Asean Para Games,” he added.
Meanwhile, local government units, non- government organizations, the private business sector, educational institutions and the general public are encouraged to lend their cooperation and support to endure the successful conduct of the 10th Asean Para Games.
MC 67, which was signed on September 26, takes effect immediately.
The Asean Para games is a biennial, multi sport event organized by the Asean Para Sports Federation for athletes with physical, visual or intellectual disabilities.
PPC President Michael Barredo earlier announced that the country’s preparations for the Asean Para Games 2020 were already in full swing.
