“One athlete slot given to a foreign player is one slot denied to a Pinoy player. It’s as simple as that,” he said.
Romero also urged the Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education to reconsider the athletics programs of the schools under the regulatory domain.

Romero, the owner of the PBA ballclub Northport, noted that Philippine colleges and universities practicing the recruitment of non-Filipino and foreign athletes are “so engrossed” in winning a championship for their schools that they would have to rely on the competitive advantage of African and American countries. SAN Carlos Searingan Swimming Team copped the overall championship crown in the 165th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) National Series – Class C and Novice held at the Diliman Preparatory School swimming pool in Quezon City.
San Carlos collected 620 points to claim the top spot in the tournament supported by The Manila Times and former Sen. Nikki Coseteng, president and CEO of Diliman Preparatory School.
Binangonan Splashers Swimming Team settled for second with 573 points while Pasay Dolphins Swimming Team earned the thirdplace trophy with 522 points.
Susan Papa Swim Academy wound up fourth with 521 points followed by VSJA Swimming Team (469), Diliman Preparatory School ( 457), Makati Cembo Swimming Team (399), Dominican College ( 278), Bosay Resort Aquatic Club ( 245) andRoyal Tankers Swimming Club (234).
“We would like to congratulate these coaches who are helping and guiding these young swimmers in achieving excellence in swimming. A lot of hardwork and patience are needed especially in this stage (novice) of their careers,” said PSL president Alexandre Papa.
“It’s a step- by- step process. We’re looking forward to see them grow, win medals in international tournaments in the future,” he added.
Papa revealed that PSL is preparing for international tournaments in United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan and United States next year.
“We will continue what coach Susan Papa is doing. We develop young talented swimmers through PSL’s grassroots development program and then send them abroad to further hone their skills,” Papa said.
