The green thumb award is given to Zamboanga City that prioritizes the well-being of the environment. The city even led their own “Cleanest and Greenest Barangay” cleanliness competition in accordance with Ordinance 2016176 that establishes their Integrated Solid Waste Management System. The city is also paving the way for the conversion of the 4.6 hectare former dumpsite into an eco-park that will cater waste recycling facilities with the goal of reducing plastic waste and prolonging the life of the sanitary landfill (SLF), along with their various cleanup drives and activities.
According to Vice Mayor Atty. Rommel Agan, “It’s a privilege to be one of the winners of this prestigious awards and it inspires us to be better leaders of Zamboanga. I also would like to thank our constituents and all the city staff who painstakingly strive to make our city environment-friendly.” The Green Thumb Award goes to Zamboanga City. Dezza Paras, marketing manager of Wilcon Depot, Dante Francis Ang II and Blanca Mercado of give the recognition to Zamboanga City Vice Mayor Atty. Rommel Agan.
The Emergency/Disaster Management Award was given to Bacoor City because of its very proactive Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Office. Bacoor is the first city to establish its own fully trained Incident Management Team in Calabarzon.
This award-winning city in terms of disaster management practices the four thematic areas of DRRM, and holds its inter-barangay rescue olympics, trainings for the youth and the adults. It also conducted its weather and flood monitoring during heavy rains, and prepares the evacuation areas for its residents.
