MISS EARTH 2019 COSTUME WINNERS PROCLAIMED

-

All 85 candidates vying for the Miss Earth 2019 crown strutted in their national costumes on Monday at the Century Park Hotel Manila grand ballroom, regaling the judges in their colorful garbs decorated with feathers, flowers, tassles and all imaginable accessories to make an impact on the audience.

In the end, the judges chose the top three from each group, with Miss Kenya winning the gold in the Africa group, followed by Miss Zambia for silver and Miss Nigeria, bronze. For the Americas, Miss Chile in her oversized white feather costume won gold, Miss Panama in a feathery garb got silver and Miss Peru, bronze.

For the Asia, Pacific and Oceania group, Miss Mongolia was declared the gold winner, Miss Philippines Janelle Tee — who was in Ati- Atihan costume — settled for silver and Miss Vietnam, bronze.

Miss Spain was declared gold winner in the Europe group, followed by Miss Czech Republic for silver and Miss Crimea, bronze.

While most of the candidates brought their costumes from their own countries, Miss Spain's national costume — inspired by her country's national flower, the carnation — was created by young Filipino designer Edgar Jaranilla.

“Miss Spain came to the pageant without any costume, so I took the inspiration from their national flower, the carnation. The flower decor has to be fresh, so I finished it on the day of the pageant,” he told TheManilaTimes at the sidelines of the after- event party.

Because of his impressive work, the pageant organizations in Spain asked him to do the costumes of the country's representatives to the Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International and other contests.

The talent competition of the Fire Group was held at the Jolly Waves Waterpark and Resort in Oriental Mindoro.

Delegates from 29 countries participated in the event in Calapan City.

Miss Mongolia Azzaya Tsogt- Ochir, who rendered an opera song, won the gold award. Miss Denmark Sara Langtved settled for silver, while Miss South Korea Woo Hee-jun, who was also chosen as Jolly Waves ambassador, got the bronze award.

The judges in the talent competition were Oriental Mindoro Gov. Humerlito Dolor, Calapan Councilor Marian Teresa Tagupa, Pola Mayor Jennifer Cruz, Jolliville Holdings Corp. Vice President Ortrud Yao and Jolliville Leisure and Resort Corp. Chairman Jolly Ting.

The Miss Earth beauties paraded around the city and visited the Calapan City Hall. They also led a tree-planting activity sponsored by Calapan Water and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The 2019 Miss Earth pageant culminates on Oct. 26, 2019 at the Cove Manila in Okada Manila, where Nguyễn Phương Khánh of Vietnam, the reigning Miss Earth 2018, will crown her successor.

Candidates from 80 countries are participating in the 19th edition of the beauty pageant that promotes environmental awareness.
