what are those things that we can control? What parts of our lives can we direct to doing things that really take us where we want to go?

When I was a child, my family emigrated from Trinidad and Tobago to America. We were very poor, and I wanted to help my family have a better life. This goal drove me to excel in school, because I believed that if I did well in school, then I could get a great job and help my family. There was something that I wanted: quality of life for myself and for my family. I had a path for getting there: school and university. The plan was straightfo­rward, and it worked, although it took many years, great toil, and many ups and downs before coming to pass.

Sometimes half of the battle is

out what we want to go after. Then once we decide, the next half of the battle is in taking action, working hard and sticking to it. When we’re focused and not scattered, things start to open up. “Luck” is often the product of being focused on something and going after it with great passion and believing.

We live in such a hurried and distracted world, with instant messages constantly vying for our attention. Take some time out to quietly disconnect from the distractio­n and get to know the person who matters the most — YOU. What are YOU all about? What do YOU want in life? What makes YOU happy? Are we falling into a routine which is only eating away at us and stealing our health, resources, and peace of mind? What can we do, bit by bit, that will help us to achieve the things that we want in life? It’s in these moments that the best ideas and inspiratio­n can come to us.

Life is fluid, dynamic and changeable. Simple goals, simple plans, simple acts and simple prayers can make the difference between living life with a “blah” feel
