'Where classic Filipino dishes tastes extraordinary'

FROM a dining favorite that is homey and reminiscent of lunches at lola ’s on Sundays, the company behind Elm’s Kapihan and Bar has opened a new branch called Elm’s Grill and Bar in Poblacion, Makati City as part of their move for rebranding.

What was then known as Elm’s Kapihan Group is now the Elm’s Restobar Group, but still serves its trademark Beef Kare-Kare, Pr itongN at ive I ti kandK al der et an gK am bing.

Originally a hang- out place for Elmer Ngo and his son Lawrence, together with partners and friends Lito Gagni, Malou Yambao and Tanya Cruz, Elm’s Kapihan and Bar opened its first branch in Kapitolyo, Pasig in December 2015.

“We wanted to have a bar that has a relaxed vibe and cozy atmosphere where we can meet new friends,” Yambao shared.

“We never expected that it would be patronized by a lot of people. Most of us partners, especially Elmer, love to drink coffee and unwind with whiskey or gin. That’s why we are always there,” she continued.

Together with Ngo, she has been trusted by all the partners to make decisions for the company.

From there it grew to welcome more diners in two more branches — Elm’s Kapihan and Winery in Commonwealth in 2017 and Elm’s Kapihan and Beer in Novaliches in 2018. To make sure they only serve the best to their customers, the company sources the choicest ingredients locally which are then prepared at its own commissary in San Fernando, Pampanga to maintain consistency in taste and presentation, managed by co- owner and culinary director Tanya Cruz.

“All our food are meticulously prepared and a lot of love is put into it. Much like how one would cook a meal for their family and friends,” Cruz said. “It gives you the classic Filipino dishes but the taste is extraordinary. The recipes added to the local cuisines are unique making it more outstanding. The staff is attentive and the service is superb,” regular Carlene Benin of Okada Manila attested.
