- JAVIER JOE ISMAEL

SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go took time on Friday to extend relief assistance and boost the morale of residents whose houses were razed down by a fire at Sitio Amor in Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City.

The senator provided grocery packs and financial assistance to the victims still reeling from their recent ordeal. The fire affected 135 families and partially damaged 32 houses.

But aside from extending assistance, Go said it was important for him to listen to their concerns personally and provide solutions to their daily struggles.

“Pitongarawnamansaisang linggo, apatnaarawsasenado, samgaganitongarawpona pwedeakongmagpahinga, hindinapoakomagpapahinga, ilalaankonalangposamga tao.Kawawanamanposila. I want to give immediate solutions to their problems),” he said.

The lawmaker also assured affected students he would provide them school supplies and uniforms so that they could immediately return to school.

As for the families who lost their homes and are currently staying at Sitio Tangkungan’s Barangay Gym, the senator said he had already coordinated with the National Housing Authority regarding their relocation sites and the Department of Trade and Industry for livelihood assistance to eligible recipients.

Go also urged the residents, especially those who were injured or suffering from medical conditions, to visit the nearest Malasakit Center so they can avail medical assistance from government agencies.

“Peraponinyoiyan, ibinabalik ( This is your money, it will be used for your needs,” he emphasized.
