- ARLIE O. CALALO

THE coronavirus 2019 disease (Covid-19) positive cases in Quezon City rose to 140 with 26 deaths and 10 recoveries, the local health department reported on Tuesday. Among the city’s six districts, District 4 has the highest recorded positive cases at 49 with Barangay Bagong Lipunan ng Crame on top with nine positive cases followed by Barangay Kalusugan and South Triangle with four cases each. District 1 has 30 positive cases with both Barangay Bahay Toro and San Isidro Labrador having four cases each. District 6 has 21 positive cases with Barangay Culiat and Pasong Tamo having seven cases each. In a phone interview, Mayor Josefina “Joy” Belmonte told TheManilaTimes that they have now a total of 18 barangay (villages), including the two latest additions — Barangay Balara and Teachers Village West — that were placed under extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ). She clarified that Barangay Central is included in the list though it does not have any single Covid-19 patient because of the presence of hospitals along East Avenue. EECQ is being implemented in a particular barangay for having more than two positive patients and where transmission is most likely, Belmonte explained. She said the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Fire Department are continuously disinfecting streets and public markets. The mayor also reported that they already have distributed 929,000 food packs.
