City council responds to Olivarez call to ease taxpayers’ burden
THE city council passed resolution 260 on March 20 in response to the call of Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez for the lessor of commercial establishments in the city to consider granting reprieve in favor of tenant – establishments of their rental fees including interest and penalties as many of these small businesses will be closed following the proclamation of enhanced community quarantine. Resolution 254 was also passed to return the favor by way of extending the deadline of payment of business taxes for the second quarter of taxable year 2020 from April to July without additional penalties and surcharges.
At the same session, the city council also passed resolution 256 granting tax relief to real property taxpayers by way of extending deadline of tax amnesty from
March 31 to June 30 without penalties in view of the adverse impact of the quarantine procedure as movement of people in the communities will be restricted in compliance with social distancing directives.
Also among the resolutions passed were resolution 259, extending the payment of transfer tax, contractual tax and miscellaneous fees and other charges until April 30 without penalty; resolution 264 which strongly urge all business process out sourcing (BPO) in the city to consider leniency of work schedule among their employees as people are restricted at home and all mass transports were suspended.
Finally, the city councilors were in agreement to pass resolution 263 authorizing the release of city employee’s midyear bonus and clothing allowance.
