Laser tech boosts agri-machinery firm

- BY LEANDER C. DOMINGO

THROUGH the intervention of the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), a local manufacturer of agricultural machines in Isabela province has boosted its production through the utilization of state-of-theart laser equipment.

The DoST introduced to ACT Machineries and Metalcraft Corp. a laser-cutting machine to speed up and replace the company’s slow steelcutting system.

As a result, ACT Machineries has increased its production by 25 to 35 percent, with cutting time of parts used in the assembly process reduced to 50 percent. Furthermore, rejection of misaligned parts decreased by 10 percent.

According to the Sancho Mabborang, DoST-Region 2 director, the modernization of agriculture in the country also depends on local agricultural machinery equipment manufacturers like ACT Machineries.

ACT Machineries started operations in 1986 and is based in Turayong village in Cauayan City. It was founded by Angel Tactay, the company’s current chairman of the board.

On January 12, 1996, the board decided to register the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a corporation.

“Since then, we were able to expand our operation with 16 branches in eight provinces in Luzon,” Tactay said.

ACT Machineries maintains two branches in Nueva Ecija, two in Nueva Vizcaya, two in Ilocos Norte, one in Ilocos Sur, one in La Union, one in Ifugao, two in Cagayan and fiVE IN ISABELA.

“This was a strategic and a bold move by the corporation to address the needs of our growing number of clients and be part of their growth,” Tactay said.

He also said the company markets various agro-industrial machineries and equipment and has a manufacturing plant that produces high-quality PRODUCTS THAT fiTS THE NEEDS OF FARMERS, not only in agriculture-based Cagayan Valley but also in Northern Luzon.

The ACT Machineries manufacturing plant produces farm trailers, power tillers, rice threshers, corn husker/shellers, jeep threshers, handtractor driven corn planter, pneumatic corn planter, cassava digger, cassava granulator, cassava grater, amphitiller, biomass shredder, compact corn mill, furrower, soybean sorter grader and cleaner, 5-toner trailer, trailer bed, trailing harrow and other metal products all at a very reasonable prices.

Mabborang said that in the past few years, ACT Machineries was experiencing slow fabrication of its products due to the lack of state-ofthe-art equipment.

“To be able to meet the demand of their customer and make necessary improvements, ACT Machineries sought for appropriate fabrication equipment to upgrade its production capacity through the Innovation System Support of the Department of Science and Technology,” Mabborang

said.

He said DoST also supported the company through the agency’s Consultancy for Agricultural and Manufacturing Productivity Improvement, which assisted ACT Machineries in getting ISO 9001:2015, which is a Quality Management System CERTIfiCATION.

“ACT Machineries lasered the future of agri-machineries by which it also contributed to the community through the generation of about 307 direct workers and improved the agri-machineries sector by providing quality agri-machinery facilities made available to our local farmers,” Mabborang said.
