‘Listening Together’ to keep the world close

WITH more than 30,000 people around the world pressing “play” on the same song every second on Spotify, the online music platform has launched a new campaign to celebrate the power of audio to bring the global audience closer together.

With “Listening Toalns Together,” Spotify visualizes these connection­s in real-time in a way ay that has never been n done before. Through h the microsite spotify. - com/ together, r, two strangers may y connect through h tracks like “Kathang Isip” or “Bored in the House.”

Moreover, the Artist Playlist Takeovers happens weekly, giving music lovers refreshed content to accompany their go-toat-home activities.

Specific to the Philippine­s, some e of the big biggest names in OPM including Ben&Ben, Moira Dela Torre and Jason Marvin have come together for a group takeover of “OPM Says Chillax.” Fans can look forward to honest commentary about their favorite at-home routines, hobbies, self-care tips and tracks they are currently listening to such as “Forevermor­e” to inspire their days.

Additional­ly, at a time when many are feeling apart, Spotify has also enlisted the support of Asian artists around the region to take over some of its top “Moods & Moments” playlists. Through these playlists, connection­s between artists and their fans are amplified, bringing them closer together through a shared love of music.

Whether it’s hiphop, hip K- Pop, dangdut or OPM, Spotify’s new Listening Together campaign is inspired by a simple question to help create human connection: “What are you listening to right now?”

FILIPINO-American singer Francisco Martin’s bid to become the next “American Idol” sadly ended Sunday night ( Monday morning in Manila) during the live airing of the show’s 18th season finals in the US.

Compared to previous years where the last leg of the singing search would air from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, host Ryan Seacrest announced the winner from home, with all the contestant­s and celebrity judges also connected via video conferenci­ng from theirs.

At the end of the evening, 21-year-old Just Sam from Harlem, New York garnered majority of real-time votes and was declared this year’s American Idol.

Top 5

Fil-Am communitie­s in the US had high hopes for Martin who got into the Top 5 at the beginning of the show. Along with Sam, Arthur Gunn, Johnny West and Dillon James, Martin had to deliver two songs each — a celebrator­y tune for being making it to the finals and a previously performed track.

For his first spot, the 19-yearold Fil-Am from San Francisco, California did a cover of Harry Styles’ “Adore You,” which all three celebrity judges — pop star Katy Perry, music icon Lionel Richie and country singer Luke Bryan — loved.
