YAP SHARPENS COOKING SKILLS DURING PANDEMIC
TWO-TIME T Most Valuable Player James Yap of Rain or Shine used the hiatus brought by the Covid-19 pandemic t to improve his cooking skills with his mother in Alabang.
Yap, 38, said he is learning to cook laswa,adobong Bisaya (both Visayan dishes) and nilagangbaka from his mother Annie, who used to own a small carinderia in Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
“Meronpangakamingmaliitnacarinderiasa Escalante City sa Negros noon,naaalalakoathanggangngayon g gustung-gustoko‘yunglutongnanayko (We used to own a small eatery in Escalante City in Negros and I really love my mother’s cooking),”
Y Yap told TheManilaTimes in a phone interview on Friday.
“When it comes to adobo,gustunggusto g native namanok, ‘yunglaswaismgagulay like okraat ‘yungnilagangbaka (I love using native t chicken for my adobo,laswa is a v vegetable dish with okra),” added Yap. Nilagangbaka N is Filipino beef stew.
Yap said he can also cook sulot, w which is made of bread and niyog
( coconut meat).
The veteran cager knows consuming w what he cooks could result in unwanted weight gain hence he is following t the exercise program provided by Rain or Shine’s fitness coach.
“Napaparami‘yungkainkokaya nagko- control namanakokasi mananabatalagaako
(I tend to overeat tha’s why w I must control myself or get fat). I’m doing a lot of exercises naman like jumping jack, situps and pushups, p and others everyday,” said Yap, w who goes to a basketball b court in Alabang whenever he can to practice shooting routines.
“About sa exercises namin, we’re doing it, professional namanathindinakailanganbantayanpa (We are doing our exercises faithfully even without supervision).”
Yap is eager to play again and win the championship for Rain or Shine.
“Satotoolangmeronpaakong two years sa contract ko,kayapanaman.‘Yunanggoalko before, sanabago akomag retire, manalopasanangisang championship for Rain or Shine (I still have two more years with Rain or Shine and I believe my body can still handle it. My goal is to win one more championship with the team)” said Yap.
