Finex lauds DoTr’s new initiatives

In a statement over the weekend, Finex said the initiatives of the DoTr could improve the traffic situation in the country’s main highway.
Its chairman of the national affairs committee Eduardo Yap even branded the reforms as “bold, historic and game changing.”
“These reforms will greatly speed up travel for millions of commuters on EDSA and other major traffic corridors in Metro Manila,” Finex said.
“Bus operators also stand to benefit because bus utilization and passenger capacity will be optimized rather than stagnating in traffic congestion. With
of the Philippines sees the current bus deployment system at EDSA by the Department of Transportation as a game changer. more efficient operation of their bus fleet, better returns will be generated,” it added.
The DOTr enforced a new traffic scheme along EDSA where 300 to 500 buses are allowed to operate, significantly lower from about 3,000 before.
The buses would be moved to the innermost lane alongside the Metro Manila Manila Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3).
They are also only allowed to make four stops for the next three weeks — at the North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, Ayala Avenue and Taft Avenue MRT-3 stations.
Eleven bus stops are also envisioned to be built, but only four were completed as the capital shifted to a more relaxed quarantine restrictions. Works on 15 more stops are being eyed with operations to commence on June 21.
