Yanson siblings evade arrest

- JAIME PILAPIL

NEGROS Occidental police failed to serve the warrant of arrest issued by a municipal trial court against the four Yanson siblings who avoided arrest by claiming to be abroad.

The Yanson siblings -- Emily, Roy, Ricardo Jr. and Maria Lourdes Celina Yanson Lopez avoided being served the warrant of arrest issued by Bacolod City Judge Abraham Bayona of Branch 7 for grave coercion as they tried to take over the management of Vallacar Transit Inc. from its incumbent president Leo Rey Yanson in July 2019.

Police Lt. Col. Anthony Gantang, officer-in-charge of CIDG-Negros Occidental, said in a report to the court that accused were not in their homes, as they claimed to be abroad, when the police served the warrant of arrest on May 31 and June 1.

“Thus the warrant of arrest was not implemented and [was] not served,” Gantang said in the report. “In view of the foregoing, it is respectfully recommended that further verification be made with the Bureau of Immigration to confirm if the above-named accused are abroad. Subject warrant of arrest remains in this office until its full implementation.”

Aside from the Yanson siblings, the court also issued the arrest of their alleged accomplices Jerica Leanne Ramos, Jerina Louise Ramos, Ma. Judy Alcala, Police Gen. Noli Romana and PCol. Jomil John Trio. Judge Bayona has set the bail at P36,000.00 for each respondent.

The Yanson family matriarch, Olivia, made a plea through her children’s lawyers to advise them to surrender to the folds of the law. She asked her children to set aside their pride, be humble and admit to their mistakes.

“Look back at the good things we had as a family. Think of the sacrifices I and your father did to build this company in order that all of you can live abundantly. Amid the pandemic afflicting our country, this is the right time to reach out and talk about our differences. Do not use other people, social media or newspapers for press releases. Come to me personally because no one can resolve this except us. Let us talk as a family. I am willing to listen. I am and will always be your mother,” the Yanson matriarch said.
