Malabon builds quarantine facility

- ARLIE O. CALALO

MALABON City is constructing another quarantine facility to accommodate suspected and probable coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients, Mayor Antolin Oreta 3rd said on Sunday.

He thanked Accord Inc. and the United Architects of the Philippines for partnering with the city government in setting up the quarantine facility at the Malabon Amphitheater.

“This quarantine facility will be used as a medical management area for possible suspected and probable Covid-19 patients in the city,” Oreta said.

“We just hope and pray that only a few [patients] will be accommodated here and let us all be safe amid this pandemic,” he added.

The city has the Ospital ng Malabon and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs building as its Covid-19 facilities.

The city’s Public Information officer, Bong Padua, noted that the additional facility could accommodate up to 40 patients. He said the local government augmented its health and security workforce to ensure that patients were well-guarded and secured.

Padua added that officials expected the rise in cases because of the expanded targeted testing that started in May.

Most of the Covid-19 patients in Malabon were senior citizens who have preexisting medical conditions.

The mayor urged residents to continue to be vigilant and observe health protocols.

“Anglabansa Covid-19 ayhindi patapos.Nasakamayniyoang kaligtasannginyongsariliatbuong pamilya. Your safety and that of your family are in your hands. Be safe because there are plenty of carriers around; there are those who are asymptomatic, there are those with late symptoms and there are people who are symptomatic, but are not telling the truth about their real condition),” Oreta said.

Malabon had 230 confirmed cases, 126 active cases, 75 recoveries and 29 deaths as of June 6, 2020.
