Caloocan tops Covid surge in Camanava

- ARLIE O. CALALO

MORE than three months after Metro Manila and other areas in the country were placed under lockdown, the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise in the northern part of the region with Caloocan City remaining on top.

Overall, there were 1,852 Covid-19 confirmed cases in Caloocan-Malabon-Navotas-Valenzuela (Camana) area with Caloocan getting the most of it at 834.

Valenzuela City, meanwhile, has 384 cases while Malabon City has 292 and Navotas City has 342.

For recoveries, a total of 788 was recorded with Caloocan having 304, Valenzuela 217, Malabon, 96, and Navotas, 171.

Caloocan remains on top as far as death toll was concerned with 50.

Valenzuela has 15, Malabon, 36, and Navotas, 40.

For active cases, Caloocan also has the highest record with 480 while Valenzuela has 152. Malabon has 160 and Navotas, 131. The four local chief executives – Mayors

Oscar Malapitan (Caloocan), Antolin Oreta 3rd (Malabon), Tobias Tiangco (Navotas) and Rex Gatchalian (Valenzuela) – were one in saying that the main contributing factor of the increase in cases was the continued expanded targeted testing they were conducting in their respective turfs.

But Tiangco said the supposed hard-headedness of some residents despite repeated warnings and reminders about the pandemic was to blame for the increase in Covid-19 cases in Navotas.

He said the City Health Office had just informed him that there were new two deaths that placed Navotas second to Caloocan.

As far as death and confirmed cases were concerned, Navotas overtook its immediate neighbor, Malabon, which is much bigger than the former in terms of population and land area.

Malabon has estimated 366 000 people in a land area of 15.96 sq. km. while Navotas has 249, 800 in a land area of 10, 77 sq. km.
