Rap phenom ALLMO$T drops first album

- MARK BONIFACIO

AFTER a slew of notable singles with two or three legit hits, rap group ALLMO$T marks milestone with the release of their first full length album entitled “This Is Us.”

The album comes after ALLMO$T spent the last year being prolific. Starting with the viral hit “Dalaga” that turned the rap group into mainstream darlings almost overnight, came the singles “Miracle Nights,” “Bagay Tayo,” “Heart React,” and “Social Media Damn.” The titles proved that the rapping quartet of Crakky and Russell and singers Jom and Clien aren’t just a flash-in-the-pan act.

Dropping singles comes easy for ALLMO$T, in fact, just a few weeks before the release of their first full length album on May 22, the group released a brand new original single entitled “Pagsubok” — an old-school styled R&B cum rap number that saw the group dishing out a tune out of their usual style with ease.

That’s why it’s easy to see that on their first-ever album, ALLMO$T’s confidence is at an all-time high as they dispense close to a dozen new original tracks, kicking off with the R&B-flavored mid-tempo opening track “Gap,” and the party starter “Lagi Kang Kasama.”

Still in their early-to-mid-twenties, the themes of the group’s new album reflect their outlook on relationships, which to date has been their go-to topic springboard for songs. Their preoccupations are clearly in their music from “Rebound” to “Magkasundo.”

Deeper into the album we find that ALLMO$T has upped their game on tracks like the faux-funk and chill of “Dito Ka Na Lang.” They ditch their hip-hop identities for the excellent rap-rock-R&B amalgam of “Space.” Then they turn playful on the cutesy ditty that is “Manantili.”

But they are at undoubtedly at their best with their default hip-hop mode on tracks like “Missed Call” and the R&Bleaning “Tampo.”

ALLMO$T closes their first album with a reprise of their career-making viral hits “Dalaga” and “Ikaw.” In all, a solid effort for a group that’s just getting started.

The album is produced by Peso Productions and released by Viva Records. It is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and all other digital music platforms.

“Hurry Home” is the new single from alt-pop star No Rome featuring fellow Filipino artists Beabadoobee and Jay Som. An uplifting and laid-back track, it is yet another testament to the 22-year old’s talent as a writer, producer and performer.

It is the second track — following last year’s “Trust 3000 feat. Dijon” — from a series of collaborations, with more to be released over the coming months.

Thematically, Hurry Home finds the three artists singing about the frustrations of a struggling relationship. Combined with No Rome’s production prowess — and featuring co-production from long-time collaborator George Daniel of The 1975 — the track opens with Beabadoobee against a simple backdrop of acoustic guitar.

Atop a steady build of glistening synths, manipulated guitars and stuttering R&B beats, Jay Som joins in the second verse with an irresistibly understated vocal, with No Rome tying these elements together perfectly as he returns to the fore for each chorus.

With over 100 million streams globally to his name and support from Vogue (who tipped No Rome as their No.1 artist to watch out for in 2020), The Face, High Snobiety, NME, The Guardian, The Fader and Paper Mag to name a few, No Rome is consistently proving that he is one of the most exciting, versatile and talented young artists around.
