Indian Embassy marks 6th Internatio­nal Day of Yoga

THE Embassy of India in Manila spearheade­d the celebratio­n of the 6th Internatio­nal Day of Yoga in the Philippine­s on June 21. Given the prevailing situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s celebratio­n was uniquely themed, “Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family.”

On the occasion of Internatio­nal Yoga Day, the Embassy of India in Manila together with the National Youth Commission of the Philippine­s and the Indian Cultural Associatio­n of the Philippine­s organized an online event on Facebook and other digital platforms. The celebratio­n started with the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi’s message and the Indian Embassy’s Chargé d’affaires Manisha Swami’s message to the public highlighti­ng the importance of yoga and Internatio­nal Yoga Day.

This was followed by the common yoga protocol session led by yoga instructor in the Philippine­s Chandru Mahtani. The event, which was also supported by Art of Living Foundation in the Philippine­s, saw significan­t number of viewing and shares on the Embassy of India’s Facebook page.

The Embassy also organized a photo competitio­n themed “Let’s Yoga for a healthy

Pilipinas ” to commemorat­e the Internatio­nal Yoga Day.

Yoga is the 5,000-year- old ancient scientific tradition of India which aims to unite mind, body and soul. With this, yoga is not just a set of exercises to keep the body fit, but it is a holistic way to fitness and well-being, which may prove very effective in enduring the pandemic.
