2020 NRCP scientific conference goes virtual
THE Department of Science and Technology- National Research Council of the Philippines (DoST-NRCP) Annual Scientific Conference (ASC) and 87th General Membership Assembly was virtually conducted via Zoom on June 30.
Originally scheduled on March 9 at the Philippine International Convention Center, the conference carried the theme, “Research for Public Good.”
The ASC 2020 focused on a very timely topic on Global Health Risks, presented by Dr. Raul Destura, DoST-NRCP Vice President, Infectious Disease Expert, and Director, National Training Center for Biosafety and Biosecurity, University
of the Philippines.
The Business Meeting followed, highlighting the reports of NRCP President Dr. Ramon Razal and Treasurer Dr. Maricar Prudente. It also tackled the confirmation of the amendment on the online nomination and election process for Division Chairs, Members-at-Large, and the election for regular members.
Awards and recognitions were handed to 2019 NRCP Outstanding Institutions; 2019 Achievement Awardees; the Service Awardees; and Posthumous Recognition for National Scientist Edgardo Gomez, former DoST-NRCP President and Dr. Jovencio Apostol, former Governing Board member.
DoST Secretary Prof. Fortunato de la Peña and former DoST-NRCP president (2002-2007) shared his message to the participants; same with DoST Undersecretary for R&D Dr. Rowena Cristina Guevara, who is the agency representative to the governing board.
Payments made by those who registered for the March 9 event will be credited to the next scheduled (on-site) General Membership Assembly.
