CAMBODIA’S THEATERS REOPEN
PHNOM PENH: Cambodian movies theaters will officially be allowed to reopen starting Sunday after months of closure due to Covid- 19 distancing restrictions.
Cinemas have been closed since March, with some of Cambodia’s biggest movie theatres such as Legend Cinema and Major Cineplex stopped in their tracks. The government ordered KTV entertainment establishments and movie theaters across the country to be shut in March to curb the virus pandemic.
Now, five months later the silver screens will reopen for movie enthusiasts to experience the full cinematic experience, but now in a safe environment.
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Health inspected cinemas around Cambodia to check that correct safety measures were in place to get the go ahead for reopening. After receiving the ministries approval, they have now been given the green light.
However, new measures will need to be observed by cinema operators and moviegoers alike, including adhering to distancing markers throughout the venues, a limit on capacity in theaters, temperature checks at entrances, sanitizing stations, safety masks and safety screens between ticket sellers and customers.
A member of staff for one of the movie theatres said: “We have been closed now for five months so I am excited to reopen and for things to go back to normal.” “Our customers will be able to come and view their favorite movies and enjoy themselves in a safe controlled environment,” he added.
With Hollywood hits ready to be screened such as “Mulan,” “The Conjuring 3,” “A Quiet Place 2” as well as Asian titles such as “Low Season” and “Peninsula,” avid cinemagoers will have plenty of quality cinema ahead.
