Davao City fire victims get aid

- RUTH PALO

DAVAO CITY: To further help Barangay Ilang fire victims, whose houses here were razed by fire on April 29, the office of Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go distributed assistance to 47 beneficiaries on Wednesday.

All the beneficiaries received meals, food packs, face masks, face shields and medicines.

“I have sent you food packs, masks and face shields. Please wear them because it is still dangerous at this time. Also, if possible, practice social distancing and wash hands,” the senator advised residents in a video call.

Go and his office also gave away bicycles to selected recipients to help them in their daily commute to work. He also distributed computer tablets to chosen beneficiaries to help their kids cope with the blended learning education.

“I am also giving tablets to your kids. For the children, you study hard. This is the only joy that [you could give your parents]. They are working [very] hard for your future,” Senator Go added.

The Department of Trade and Industry, through the Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa Program, has also awarded 23 sarisari (variety) store business kits, 21 rice retailing kits, and three egg retailing kits to the victims during the follow-up distribution of aid.

Go had already given initial relief assistance to the victims on May 6, days after the fire incident happened in the area.

Other government agencies, such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. had already been providing their assistance to the fire victims.
