SENATE RESOLUTIONS HONOR PASIG MAYOR
THE Senate on Monday adopted two resolutions honoring Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis "Vico" Sotto for being chosen as one of the international "anti-corruption champions" by the United States government.
The senators adopted Senate Resolution Senate Resolution 659 filed by Sen. Manuel Lapid and Senate Resolution 660 authored by Sen. Panfilo Lacson and Senate President Vicente Sotto 3rd.
Twelve senators took turns in commending the 31-year-old mayor who visited the Senate to personally accept the resolution.
They said his "competent management" of the city’s response to the coronavirus pandemic earned him rave reviews not only from fellow local executives but the US State Department as well.
Lacson said Vico's accomplishments “set the bar high in public service." He lauded the mayor "for being an exemplar of integrity and efficiency in public service."
Since he won the mayoral race in 2019, Vico has demonstrated his "steadfast commitment to stopping corruption by eliminating any kickback or bribery in the awarding of city contracts, establishing a 24/7 public information and complaints hotline, and formally involving civil society organizations in the city’s budgeting and policymaking," Lacson added.
"Mayor Vico has become even more an inspiration to most public leaders with his various proactive and out-ofthe-box measures amid the Covid-19 pandemic," the senator said.
Vico was among the People of the Year 2021 Awardees for spreading hope, taking action and serving others, thus earning the merit as one of the seven The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) honorees of 2020.
As described by the US State Department, Mayor Sotto is a “standard-bearer for a new generation of Philippine politicians who prioritize anti-corruption and transparency initiatives in their election campaigns and in office," Lacson said.
The US State Department said the mayor "has sought to solidify his reputation as a fresh voice with a new, more transparent approach to governance.”
