INC to distribute Covid-19 assistance

- ARLIE O. CALALO

THE Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) will distribute aid in communities affected by lockdowns because of a surge in Covid-19 cases.

The humanitarian drive under the group’s Lingap sa Mamamayan started on April 18. The INC allocated P10 million for the initiative that will cover the cities of Quezon, Manila, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Valenzuela and the provinces of Rizal, Laguna, Cavite and Bulacan.

The aid distribution will continue until April 30,2021.

“Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo and the entire INC continue to act on the spirit of bayanihan that our government is spearheading. We as a Church will do our share in providing assistance to our countrymen in need — those who have lost jobs, those who need food and basic supplies, those who need upliftment during this ongoing health emergency,” said INC finance officer Glicerio Santos 4th.

Santos said the INC will coordinate with local government units in the distribution of relief goods to residents of target areas.

The current Lingap initiative is a continuation of the series of humanitarian programs supervised by former general auditor Bro. Glicerio B. Santos Jr. for several years.

Successful Lingap and Aid to Humanity campaigns had been held throughout the Philippines, in various parts of Asia, Africa, Australia-New Zealand, the American continent and in Europe.

The INC said it will focus its resources this time on local needs as the country continues to battle the pandemic.

“Rest assured that the Church will continue to help and assist our national and local governments, to provide direct, tangible assistance. We will also continue our prayers so the whole nation may peacefully overcome this pandemic,” Santos said.
