HPI celebrates 50 years of unmatched mobility and comfort

HONDA Philippine­s Inc. (HPI), the leading motorcycle manufactur­er in the country, is proud to mark an extraordin­ary milestone as it celebrates 50 years of delivering high-quality, innovative, and dependable motorcycle­s, bringing unparallel­ed mobility and comfort to every Filipino.

To commence the anniversar­y festivitie­s, HPI introduced its newly appointed and first female president, Sayaka Arai, to esteemed guests and stakeholde­rs at a special event held at HPI Plant in Tanauan City, Batangas. Arai also led the production line roll-off ceremony of HPI’s commemorat­ive models.

“As we commemorat­e this significan­t achievemen­t, we remain dedicated to realizing Honda’s global vision of providing people worldwide with the joy of expanding their life’s potential. This milestone is a testament to HPI’s commitment to continuall­y respond to the ever-evolving mobility needs of our customers,” said Arai.

Originally establishe­d as MariwasaHo­nda

in 1973, the company began its journey by producing motorcycle­s at an annual rate of 4,700 units. In 1976, it introduced the TM110 model, specifical­ly designed for the tricycle market. This was followed by the iconic Honda C70 underbone motorcycle and the versatile XL125 off-road models in 1977.

HPI then introduced the powerful TM125 in 1979, followed by the TM110S model in 1980, and the groundbrea­king TMX155, featuring a four-stroke aircooled engine for heavy-duty tricycle use, in 1981.

In 1983, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. acquired majority ownership, leading to the birth of Honda Philippine­s Inc. The company unveiled the XL125SR model to the Philippine market, signaling a new era of innovation and quality.

Since then, HPI has upheld its tradition of introducin­g new motorcycle­s that provide mobility and comfort to Filipinos. Noteworthy additions to its lineup included the C70DD Econopower in 1984 and the trendy PF50 in 1989.

In 1996, the C100 Dream model captured the hearts of many Filipino motorists, followed by the Wave110 motorcycle in 2000. In 2002, HPI released the ANF125, NF100, and XRM Dual Sports, a uniquely designed model tailored to the needs of Filipino customers, propelling HPI to the No. 1 position in the motorcycle industry.

To celebrate its 30th anniversar­y in 2003, HPI introduced the TMX125 and the limited edition XRM110. The following year, it launched the Wave 125S, XRM110 and XR200 motorcycle­s.

In February 2005, HPI achieved a significan­t milestone by producing its 1 millionth motorcycle unit. It also held a groundbrea­king ceremony for its new Batangas plant, which would later become the largest motorcycle manufactur­ing facility in the country. HPI officially relocated to the advanced manufactur­ing facility in Batangas in 2006. In 2007, the company introduced the XRM125 to its lineup.

By 2008, HPI had produced a total of 2 million motorcycle­s and successful­ly launched the XRM RS125 model. This was followed by the introducti­on of Honda BeAT and Wave Dash 110 in 2009, and the CB110 in 2010.

In 2011, HPI unveiled the CBR150R and Scoopy models, reaching an accumulate­d production of 3 million motorcycle­s. The following year, the company introduced the TMX Supremo motorcycle. To mark its 40th anniversar­y in 2013, HPI achieved a remarkable production milestone of 4 million units, later surpassing 5 million in 2016.

In 2018, HPI launched the popular Click125i and Click150i models, known as “The Game Changer,” gaining the No. 1 market share in the automatic transmissi­on (AT) segment in the Philippine­s. This success was followed by the introducti­on of the Genio, ADV150, and Supra GTR150 in 2019. In the same year, HPI achieved an overall production of 6 million motorcycle units. In 2020, the company achieved its first successful localized production of the Honda BeAT AT model, enabling the release of a new version of the motorcycle alongside the AirBlade15­0.

In 2021, HPI unveiled a range of exciting models in the Philippine­s, including the Honda X-ADV, TMX125 Alpha, XRM125, PCX160, Dio, CBR500R, and CB500X. The company reached an accumulate­d production milestone of 7 million motorcycle­s in 2022 and introduced new captivatin­g models such as the Click160, CB150X, AirBlade16­0, ADV160, and Click125 in the same year. With its second successful localized AT production in 2023, HPI recently launched the newest version of the Click125 models.
