PNU marks 32 years as center for teacher education
THE Philippine Normal University (PNU) in Manila celebrated its 32nd anniversary as the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd)-designated National Center for Teacher Education on Jan. 12, 2024.
PNU President Bert Tuga said the theme of this year’s celebration was “Reframing Teacher Education Pathways for Future-Ready PNU.”
TUGA APPOINTED KEY OFfiCIALS TO make sure that the 122-year-old academic institution maintains and strengthens its mandate as National Center for Teacher Education with Dr. Marilyn Balagtas as vice president for academics; Dr. Lordinio Vergara, vice president FOR fiNANCE AND ADMINISTRATION; DR. Teresita Rungduin, vice president for research, extension and quality assurance; and Dr. Denmark Yonson, vice president for student success and stakeholders services.
Also appointed as PNU Campus executive directors and provosts are Dr. Agnes Reyes, PNU North Luzon; Dr. Leah Amor Cortez, PNU South Luzon; Dr. Ralger Jocson Jr., PNU Visayas; and Dr. Adelyn Abrea, PNU Mindanao.
In a related development, PNU inked a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the City College of Calamba (CCC) in Laguna to strengthen the partnership between the two higher education institutions for academic and research exchanges, according to PNU LinkAGES AND INTERNATIONAL OFfiCE.
Tuga and CCC President Ronald Gonzales signed the accord.
CCC is a public higher education institution established in 2006, coinciding with national hero Jose Rizal’s 145th birth anniversary. The institution was founded to provide free, highquality education for underprivileged constituents, subsidized by the city government.
CCC envisions itself as an accredited premier academic institution in the region, providing quality learning opportunities to financially challenged but deserving students to produce competent, conscientious, committed and compassionate global professionals.
To achieve its vision, CCC’s faculty members, staff and students recognize their vital roles in promoting social responsibility, moral uprightness, and national servitude, guided by the ideals, philosophies and values of the country’s national hero.
