NVizcaya steps up real property tax collection

- LEANDER C. DOMINGO

BAYOMBONG: The Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO) is intensifying its collection of taxes by offering a 10 percent discount to those who will pay their real property taxes (RPTs) on or before the March 31, 2024 deadline.

Provincial Treasurer Rhoda Moreno said the incentive of a 10 percent discount is to encourage the Novo Vizcayanos to be punctual in payments of their taxes.

“It is also the PTO’s commitment to enhance collection efficiency, which in turn supports the funding of public services and local development initiatives in the province,” she added.

She clarified that the PTO’s aim is not only to collect taxes “but to foster a culture of responsibility and punctuality among our government workforce.”

She said the PTO is doubling its efforts to encourage prompt and advance RPT payments among government employees.

Mandated to be a provincial imposition, Moreno said RPT is deemed to be the largest local source of income in the province.

With the introduction of the new Office Tax Campaign at various Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) offices, the PTO has reminded its staff of the critical importance of paying taxes on time.

Citing the Provincial Legislative Board Resolution 3689 authored by Board Member Patricio Dumlao, Moreno said it is the PTO’s purpose to better implement the collection of RPT towards boosting the overall collection efficiency of the province.

She cited the 4K Program “Kayo, Kami sa Gobyerno Kasama sa Kaunlaran” which aims to involve government officials and employees in the province’s development by setting a standard in tax compliance for the private sector to emulate.

“With the convenience of GCash and the financial benefits of early payment, we are confident that our employees will lead by example and inspire others to do the same,” Moreno said.

Earlier, the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya headed by Gov. Jose “Jing” Gambito has modernized its approach by partnering with G-Xchange Inc.

The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of agreement (MoA) signed on Dec. 18, 2023 to allow taxpayers to use GCash for their transactions.

Moreno noted that the MoA signed between Gambito representing the provincial government and Trisha Nell Dizon representing the G-Xchange as manager signifies a leap forward in convenience for taxpayers, enabling them to fulfill their obligations through the popular GCash mobile payment gateway.

She said this payment alternative spares taxpayers from the need to conduct personal transactions at the provincial treasury, thereby streamlining the payment process.
