Nueva Ecija elects LnB president

CUYAPO, Nueva Ecija: Sen. Robinhood “Robin” Padilla’s first cousin was elected president of the Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) here and will serve as an ex-officio member of the provincial board.

Sonny Cariño, the newly elected president, was sworn in by Gov. Aurelio Matias Umali during the flag ceremony on Monday, January 15.

Also present were Vice Gov. Emmanuel Anthony Matias Umali, Mayor Flor Paguio Esteban and Vice Mayor Cinderella Ramos.

Cariño was elected unopposed along with the other league officers during an election held under the provisions of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) at the Amphitheat­er of the Old Capitol in Cabanatuan City on January 12.

Sonny’s late father Pedro is the brother of the senator’s mother Eva Cariño.

The Cariños are from the village of Nagmisahan in the town of Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija.

“I call on my fellow league members and officers to be responsibl­e and profession­al when it comes to delivering fairness with better services for the sake of the welfare of their respective constituen­ts,” Cariño said.

The other league officers are Narciso Franco (Cabiao) as vice president, Jose Rosalino Dizon (Guimba) as auditor and Aristotle Manabat (Zaragosa) as treasurer.

The board of directors are Albert Lopez (Licab) and Aristotle Manabat in the first district, Alexander Natividad (Science City of Muñoz) and Benjamin Tiangco 3rd (Talavera) in the second district, Teddy Jun Rivera (Laur) and Renato Octavo Sr. (Gabaldon) in the third district, and Donnabel Bautista (General Tinio) and Jomar Pestaño (San Leonardo) in the fourth district.
