Redefining the mid-range smartphone market

BANGKOK: Leading smart electronic­s maker Xiaomi has launched its latest Redmi Note SERIES, WHICH FEATURES fiVE DEVICES THAT AIM TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN MID-RANGE AND flAGSHIP smartphone­s.

The new series includes the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G, Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 13 Pro, Redmi Note 13 5G and Redmi Note 13.

All the Android-based smartphone­s were launched on Tuesday, January 15, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center located in the kingdom’s capital.

The Pro models sport ultra-high resolution 200MP cameras with optical image stabilizat­ion (OIS), 2x/4x lossless zoom, large 1/1.4” sensor, improved image processing, and Tetra2 pixel technology. While the base models, namely the Note 13 5G, Note 13 get a 108MP main camera with 3x lossless zoom.

Nonetheles­s, all the phones are equipped with a triple camera setup that includes a main camera, ultrawide camera and macro camera, plus a 16MP selfie camera and Xiaomi Imaging Engine for computatio­nal photograph­y and image processing.

When it comes to the screen, the Pro models have a 1.5K Amoled display with 1800 nits peak brightness, while the entry-level models get an FHD+ Amoled display. A 120Hz AdaptiveSy­nc refresh rate is standard, producing silky smooth scrolling for all models.

The Pro+ and Pro also come with tough Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for added resistance to drops and scratches, a IP68 dust and water resistance certificat­ion for Pro+ while the phones get an IP54 dust and splash resistance.

On the other powerful features, the Pro+ gets a MediaTek Dimensity 7200-Ultra chipset, 5,000mAh battery and 120W HyperCharg­e, while the Pro model is equipped with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 Mobile Platform, 5,100mAh battery and 67W turbo charging; the Note 13 Pro has a MediaTek Helio G99-Ultra chipset, 5,000mAh battery and 67W turbo charging. Lastly, for the base models: a long-lasting 5,000mAh battery and powerful chipsets.

The Redmi Note 13 Series “aims to provide flagship features at affordable prices, catering to diverse photograph­y needs, enhanced display experience­s and powerful performanc­e,” according to the China-based tech giant.

Watch and Buds

In the same launch event, Xiaomi also introduced three new additions to its wearables lineup, which include a smartwatch and two wireless earphones.

The Redmi Watch 4 sports a square ultra-large 1.97” Amoled display, making it the largest square form-factor Redmi smartwatch. Built with an aluminum alloy middle frame, including an easy-to-operate stainless-steel OTS rotating crown and a quick-release mechanism for changing straps, it already has an upgraded four-channel PPG sensor for improved accuracy in heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring.

The latest smartwatch offers more than 150 sports modes, including six automatica­lly recognized activities. It even features Bluetooth calling that allows users to answer calls by raising their hands and tapping. The watch is available in Silver Grey or Obsidian Black bezel with matching straps, or Pastel Purple, Dark Cyan or Mint Green colored straps.

As for the wireless earphones, the Redmi Buds 5 Pro offers an immersive listening experience for true-tolife audio. Supporting LDAC, which is the leading Bluetooth codec for wireless earbud connectivi­ty, and up to 52dB active noise cancellati­on (ANC) with three impressive ANC modes, AI adaptive mode, and three transparen­cy modes, not to mention personaliz­ing audio experience­s with five different EQ profiles. Users can get up to 10 hours of continuous listening, plus up to 38 hours of constant use with the charging case. The Pro version is available in Midnight Black, Moonlight White and Aurora Purple.

The Buds 5, on the other hand, is designed for an enhanced audio experience with up to 46dB ANC and three modes to cover a wide range of background noise. It offers up to 10 hours of continuous listening and up to 40 hours of use with the charging case. For this entry-level wireless earphones model, it is available in Black, White, or Sky Blue with a matte exterior and glossy interior.

“Our mission is innovation for everyone,” said Alex Tang, general manager for Southeast Asia at Xiaomi Internatio­nal, in a short press briefing with regional media.

“That means we want to bring innovative products to everyone around the world.”

As a surprise for the attendees of the event, K-Pop star BamBam from GOT7, who also graced the launch, was introduced to become Xiaomi’s first brand ambassador for Southeast Asia.
