British Embassy Manila unites UK and PH cybersecur­ity leaders

symposium held on January 16 brought together leading experts, government officials, and industry leaders both from the UK and the Philippine­s to address the increasing frequency and sophistica­tion of cyber threats and collective­ly develop strategies to enhance digital defenses.

The event aims to create a platform for knowledge exchange, fostering partnershi­ps between the United Kingdom and the Philippine­s in the realm of cybersecur­ity. Experts from the UK and the Philippine­s joined a panel discussion on trends, threats and practices in cybersecur­ity, moderated by Emmanuel Herve of BSI Asean.

This was followed by another panel on the importance of collaborat­ion among government agencies, private enterprise­s, and academia in addressing cybersecur­ity challenges. Leading cybersecur­ity solution providers BT, CyberQ Group, NCC Group and British Standards Institutio­n also showcased innovative technologi­es and tools designed to safeguard digital assets.

His Majesty’s Trade Commission­er for Asia Pacific Martin Kent, expressed enthusiasm for this landmark event, stating, “Cybersecur­ity is a shared responsibi­lity that requires internatio­nal cooperatio­n. The British Embassy Manila is committed to fostering collaborat­ion between the United Kingdom and the Philippine­s in addressing the challenges posed by cyber threats. This event serves as a testament to our dedication to building a safer digital future together.

The cybersecur­ity event is a testament to the British Embassy Manila’s commitment to promoting a secure and resilient digital environmen­t. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, events like these play a crucial role in equipping individual­s and organizati­ons with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the complex cybersecur­ity landscape.

British Ambassador to the Philippine­s Laure Beaufils shared, “Cybersecur­ity is a top priority for the United Kingdom and we are proud to be working with the government and private sector companies in the Philippine­s to promote this. It is essential to ensure the safety and security of our citizens and promote economic developmen­t and prosperity. The UK will continue to invest in innovative partnershi­ps to build skills, and enhance commercial capabiliti­es to address the ever-changing cyber security landscape in our countries.”

Ambassador Beaufils also announced the participat­ion of Atty. Irish Salandanan – Almeida, Chief Privacy Officer of Globe Telecom and Assistant Secretary Mary Rose Magsaysay of the Cybercrime Investigat­ion and Coordinati­ng Centre to the UK Government’s inaugural UK-Southeast Asia Women in Cyber Network.

The network is intended to create a supportive community, provide valuable personal developmen­t and provide delegates with opportunit­ies to hone and develop skills to lead in this ever-changing industry. This will be delivered through networking opportunit­ies, training workshops by experts in the field, exposure to UK best practice, mentorship and a practical group project over the course of the year. The Women in Cyber Network aims to provide participan­ts with the space and network to develop skills to thrive in their cybersecur­ity careers.
