Why Amy Perez still wants to find ex-husband Brix Ferraris

- RONNIE CARRASCO 3RD

AMY Perez had long before granted her eldest son Adi independence. In fact, Adi — now 26 — decided to go solo at 21.

However, letting go of Adi broke her heart. It was only when Amy’s mom told her, “’Ganoon ka rin naman, ‘di ba (Weren’t you like that when you were young, yourself)? You wanted to be independent when you were Adi’s age,” that she understood where her firstborn was coming from.

The radio/TV host could only speculate that the reason behind her son’s decision was to be given both time and space to process his thoughts and, at the same time, achieve a sense of peace despite growing up without his biological father at home.

Amy shared in Ogie Diaz’s vlog interview that Adi was about three or four years old when his dad, former South Border vocalist Brix Ferraris, brought him to Timezone (a popular entertainment arcade) for the first time.

Brix supposedly promised to have another round with Adi there but never showed up since then. Fast forward.

Amy sought an annulment of her marriage to Brix. Her petition was granted, and Amy took another chance at marriage.

At present, she has two other sons by radio host Carlo Castillo.

Carlo must have been Amy’s answered prayer if only for the fact that he treated Adi like his own and even legally adopted him.

For the longest time now, either Amy pays Adi regular visits at his house or Adi frequently comes home to her for sleepovers.

For Adi, growing up was getting accustomed to being unable to “go Timezone” with Brix.

So Amy ensured that despite having no domestic figure he could lovingly call “daddy,” Adi was suffused with so much affection that he could imagine. Amy recounts that Adi was in his late 20s when one of Brix’s siblings had been meaning to see how he was doing. It was a phone convo.

Amy recalls having told her former in-law she’d tell Adi about it: “So I told Adi, ‘’Yung kapatid ng (The sibling of your) papa mo wants to see you.’ You know what his answer to me was? ‘What for? Bakit ngayon lang?’ (Why only now when ) Kasi nga naman daw, they know where he lives, they know where his lola (Amy’s mom) lives, they know exactly where to reach me. So I understood what Adi meant, at ‘yun din ang sinabi ko sa kapatid ni (and that’s also what I told) Brix. Eksakto, kung ano ang pagkakasabi ni Adi (Exactly how Adi said it).”

Even her husband Carlo feels the same way, making Amy realize the unspeakable injustice done to both of them, especially Adi.

Amy admits to having spun her wheels in at least trying to find out Brix’s whereabouts, at least for Adi’s sake: “Someone told me he’s in the US. Hindi namin alam kung may iba na rin siyang pamilya doon. Ginoogle na namin siya ni Adi, pero hindi namin mahanap! (Adi and I Googled him but we couldn’t find him).”

Some source, however, had tipped her off that Brix reportedly refused to talk about his former family back here, “Well, it’s just fine with us.”

New Year conjures up hopes and aspirations, if not new beginnings.

Has Amy completely given up on her hope to see Brix and Adi cross paths one day?

“To be honest, that’s what I’ve been praying hard for, na sana magkita sila, magkausap (that they see each other and get to talk). For Brix to explain to him why he suddenly disappeared.

Simply because I cannot find the answers to those questions myself. It turns out Adi has those questions — questions in his life that have no answers.”

But surprises of surprises, there will always be blessings to those who rightfully deserve them.
