NMP announces new free STCW training
THE Tacloban-based National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) announced the approval of its two STCW mandatory courses that will be offered for free to Filipino seafarers.
The training courses are Passenger Ship Crisis Management and Human Behavior Training (PSCMHBT) and “Safety Training for Personnel Providing Direct Services to Passenger Spaces (STPPDSPS),” which will complement the existing four courses already provided by NMP at no cost.
In an official statement released by the NMP, Victor del Rosario, executive director of NMP, said the approval was granted by Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac, officer in charge of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
“This underscores NMP’s commitment to providing accessible and quality training opportunities. The decision aligns with NMP’s mission to contribute to the needs of the Filipino seafarers for skills enhancement and capacity-building interventions,” he said.
Del Rosario also conveyed his excitement for the initiative, emphasizing its pivotal role in promoting inclusivity within the maritime sector.
“This represents a substantial achievement for NMP as we work towards enhancing the accessibility and affordability of our programs and services, made possible by offering them for free. The provision of these courses at no cost extends beyond broadening educational opportunities; it is a significant contribution to nurturing skilled and competent maritime professionals,” he said.
In addition to the approved courses, Del Rosario announced that further studies will be conducted on existing NMP training courses to identify additional training courses that can be offered for free.
This endeavor is a collaborative effort with the DMW, reflecting the shared commitment to this noble cause.
NMP encourages aspiring maritime professionals to take advantage of this opportunity and join the upcoming sessions of the approved free courses in February. Detailed course requirements, schedules and enrollment information will be available on the official NMP website (www.nmp. gov.ph) and FB page (NMPTrainingCenter).
