Marina, Soname partnership to bolster shipbuilding
THE Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (Soname) collaborated to address challenges and pursue legislative measures to promote the shipbuilding industry.
Marina Administrator Sonia Malaluan and Soname Chairman Sammuel Lim and President Raymund Puso discussed key areas, including the promotion of shipbuilding and ship repair, maritime safety, maritime education and research in the country.
They advocated for legislative measures for the shipbuilding industry, sustainable initiatives like vessel electrification, and the passage of the Shipbuilding and Ship Repair (SBSR) Bill. The Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) 2028 recognizes the role of the SBSR industry as one of the vital components of the maritime sector.
They also addressed maritime safety concerns, focusing on ensuring compliance with class requirements for domestic ships.
Malaluan expressed gratitude to Soname for its active involvement in policy formulation.
The strategic partnership between Marina and Soname includes leveraging broadcast communication through social media platforms to promote naval architecture in the Philippines and provide opportunities for technical personnel to pursue advanced education in naval architecture abroad.
Malaluan was sworn in as an honorary member of Soname, highlighting the collaboration between Marina and Soname in promoting naval architecture in the Philippines.
Marina is also supporting the upcoming Cebu Maritime Expo organized by Soname, which aims to showcase advancements in maritime technology and foster collaboration among industry stakeholders.
