TACLOBAN CITY HOLDS MAYOR’S CUP EARLY THIS YEAR
TACLOBAN CITY: The Department of Education Tacloban City Division (DepEd-Tacloban) is all set for the Mayor’s Cup 2024, which will begin on Friday, January 26, and will end on Sunday, January 28.
The decision to hold the event two months earlier compared to last year’s division-wide tournament in March is intended to give coaches and players more time to prepare for the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Evraa) 2024 in April, which will be hosted by Ormoc City.
DepEd-Tacloban information officer Dr. Nilo Eder said that they are focusing on enhancing athletes’ competitiveness and performance.
“After the Mayor’s Cup, winning or selected athletes will undergo concentration training. We are preparing our athletes to be more competitive as we aspire to improve our performance as compared to last year’s,” Eder said.
DepEd Tacloban won 19 gold, 27 silver and 46 bronze medals in the 2023 Evraa.
Eder said that the Mayor’s Cup’s practical scheduling is intended to keep classes unaffected by the event, with eliminations and other games planned days before the three-day tournament to guarantee that the remainder of the events are done by Sunday.
Eder gave an invitation to attend the search for Mr. and Ms. Mayor’s Cup Tournament 2024, which will take place on January 26 at 1 p.m. at Leyte National High School, with the chosen pair representing
DepEd-Tacloban in the Evraa beauty and wit competition in Ormoc.
He hailed stakeholders, specifically the city government of Tacloban and Mayor Alfred Romualdez, for their agency’s consistent support over the years for the success of their programs and operations.
