P270K marijuana, gun found in abandoned motorcycle in Calamba

- CAMP BGEN VICENTE LIM, Calamba City: ROSELLE R. AQUINO

The Regional Highway Patrol Unit 4A (RHPU4A) under the supervision of regional chief Col. Rommel Estolano found an abandoned motorcycle that yielded high-grade marijuana leaves worth P273,800 along the national highway in Barangay Cristobal in this city on Wednesday, January 24.

The motorcycle, with no attached plate number and with a white helmet hanging on its side mirror, was found at around 7 p.m. by a mobile unit led by Maj. Jeffrey Norte, which was conducting anti-carnapping operation.

Thereafter, the police sought assistance from the barangay officials for the mandatory visual inspection of the motorcycle.

During inspection, the police noticed that one ignition key was left inserted into the compartment of the motorcycle. When the compartment was opened, the police found a motorcycle plate number 2808UZ.

Also recovered inside the compartment were a caliber .38 revolver loaded with six ammunition and 17 plastic bags containing suspected 109.52 grams of marijuana leaves.

Subsequent verification revealed that the said motorcycle is included in the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) alarm sheet.

A check on the CCTV footages in the area showed that the motorcycle was stolen while parked unattended last January 17 and was abandoned by the suspect upon seeing a police checkpoint.

Estolano acknowledged the accomplishment of RHPU4A as a result of an intensified anti-carnapping operations of the HPG under the Leadership of BGen. Alan Nazarro in line with the Philippine National Police’s aggressive and honest law enforcement operations against carnapping, highway robbery and other forms of criminality along the highway.

Estolano cited the HPG’s primary mandate and that their personnel vigilance has contributed to the government campaign against the proliferation of illegal drugs and motorcycle-riding criminals through our major thoroughfares.
