Macandili sets high expectations at Cignal

- NIEL VICTOR C. MASOY

DAWN Macandili-Catindig might be just trying to get familiar with her teammates’ tendencies and the system of her new team Cignal, but that doesn’t stop her from setting a high bar for herself in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season.

The multi-awarded libero said she has high expectations for herself, going as far as saying that she wants to be the best that she can be to help the HD Spikers win a championship.

“I actually have high expectations for myself,” said Macandili-Catindig who’s taking her respected floor defense to Cignal after the disbandment of her former team F2 Logistics.

“I have a timeline where I’m pressuring myself to really be the best version of myself so I’m starting the year right with a new team. Hopefully, we can achieve our goal.”

Macandili-Catindig said she’s actually comfortable grasping Cignal’s system since it’s practically the same as that of the Philippine women’s volleyball team under coach Shaq de los Santos, who coaches the HD Spikers.

“My training is going smoothly so far. It seems to me that nothing’s really changed because I trained under coach Shaq before with the national team so I’m quite knowledgeable with their system which isn’t that far off from the national team then. I’m very comfortable in training.”

Macandili-Catindig, 27, said that it also helps that she has veteran teammate and fellow libero Jheck Dionela, 33, guiding her, especially with the latter playing for the HD Spikers for the last 11 years now.

“Ate Jheck is so welcoming and as my senior, she’s guiding me. I don’t know the ins and outs of the team yet. She’s guiding me in training.”
